The purpose of this conference is to provide continuing educational opportunities for professionals and trainees working in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and Psychology in general. This year’s conference theme is
Community Application of Empirically Based Practices. Content will be applicable to a variety of educational and clinical settings, including
regular and special education programs, programs for persons with developmental disabilities, and other clinical treatment settings.
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP A: CONDUCTING FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS AND FUNCTIONAL COMMUNICATION TRAINING IN HOME SETTINGS WITH CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES WHO DISPLAY DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR
This half day workshop will be offered by Dr. David Wacker of the University of Iowa. Dr. Wacker is a former Editor of the Journal of Applied Behavior
Analysis (JABA) and is a Fellow in the Association for Behavior Analysis. Dr. Wacker is one of the leading experts on functional analysis, brief versions of that assessment, and functional communication training. He will describe the basic components of a program that targets the assessment and treatment of problem behavior in home, rather than in clinical, settings. This discussion will focus on specific modifications and recommendations that are necessary for applying functional analysis in largely uncontrolled yet naturalistic environments.
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP B: SPECIAL FEATURES OF COMBINED SCHEDULES OF
REINFORCEMENT
This half-day workshop will be offered by Dr. F. Charles (Bud) Mace of the University of Southern Maine. He is a former editor of JABA and is a Fellow in the Association for Behavior Analysis. Dr. Mace has a long history of conducting translational research and is probably best known for his research in the area of behavioral momentum. His presentation will discuss the interaction between response class hierarchies, behavioral momentum and schedules of reinforcement. Special consideration will be given to how the
reinforcement of problem behavior affects treatment efficacy and the extent to which problem behavior is likely to re-emerge.
This conference is intended for professionals, clinicians, para-professionals, educators, and interns who provide services to, teach, evaluate, treat, or otherwise work with persons in educational and clinical settings.
Participants will be provided with evidence-based strategies for dealing with common and severe behavior problems.
